Rules

Everyone loves a good field hockey game but to have that good  field hockey game there have to be rules. Rule # 1: Always play with the flat side of  your stick. #2: The ball can not be kicked, held, or carried by a field hockey player. #3:Players are not able to stop or shield the ball at any time using their stick or body. #4: Charge, hit or hurt any opponent on porpoise. #5:Hit, hook, or hold any part of an opponent's stick.

There are also penalties. Penalties happen when a player does a false start, or starts a corner too early or, if any of theses fouls happen inside the circle on purpose. This may sound like a lot of information and it's all really confusing, but it's not once you think it all through it all starts to make sense.

There are also card which happen if you foul, or get a penalty. The first warning is a green card. A green card is an official warning indicating a minor offence has occurred. A second green card represents a yellow card. A yellow card means you’ve been warned twice and you have a five minute suspension from the game. And finally there is a red card where the player or even coach is ejected from the game.

Umpires are human too! If you see the other team's player kick the ball, but the umpire doesn’t so she/he doesn't call it, don’t yell or talk to the umpire about it. If you talk back to the umpire that could result in a green card. It is your coach's job if they want to talk to the umpire about the situation. There are many rules to a field hockey game but to find out how all the rules started and the game itself read on to the next page.
